Michael Shannon & Emma Roberts To Star In Thriller ‘Abandoned’

Michael Shannon and Emma Roberts have signed on to star in Abandoned, a thriller that will mark the directorial debut of actor Spencer Squire, who is also co-writing the film alongside Jessica Scott (The X-Files), and Erik Patterson (Another Cinderella Story).

The film revolves around a mother, father, and infant son as they move into a remote farmhouse, which harbors a dark, tragic history. As their home’s past is revealed, the mother’s fragility escalates to a state of psychosis that jeopardises her own safety, as well as her newborn son’s.

A partnership between Vertical Entertainment and Three Point Capital are financing the film. Vertical’s Peter Jarowey and Three Point’s David Gendron said in a joint statement:

Abandoned is our first foray in this endeavor and we are extremely proud of the progress thus far. Marking Vertical’s fifth collaboration with producer Rob Barnum, the screenplay is terrific, and Spencer delivered an extremely frightening, yet relatable, feature brought to life by his incredible cast.”

Shannon was recently seen in the HBO Max series Nine Perfect Strangers, while he’ll next be seen in Shriver, which will see him work alongside Squire again, this time in front of the camera. He’s also got supporting roles in David Leitch‘s Bullet Train and David O. Russell‘s star-studded untitled period drama lined up.

Roberts’ most recent role was in last year’s Netflix romantic comedy Holidate, while she has another romantic comedy titled About Fate lined up, which she will star in alongside Thomas Mann.

Abandoned does not currently have a release date.
