Miles Teller Joins ‘Top Gun 2’ As Goose’s Son | Film News

Miles Teller is remarkable in the international trailer for ‘Whiplash’

Last week it was reported that three actors were in line for the role of Goose’s son in the upcoming Top Gun sequel, Top Gun: Maverick. Miles Teller, Nicholas Hoult and Glen Powell were the three names atop the shortlist. But it is Teller who has won out and been cast in the role.

This isn’t a huge surprise since Teller was considered the frontrunner for the role, having worked with director Joseph Kosinski previously on Only The Brave. He will play Maverick’s new protege, who happens the be the son of Maverick’s former co-pilot and best friend in the 1986 film.

The sequel will also reunite Kosinski with Tom Cruise, with the duo having previously collaborated on 2013’s sci-fi action film, Oblivion. Val Kilmer will also return as Iceman, and the film will reportedly explore the role of a pilot in a new era where drone technology has began to take over.

Teller’s addition means another well-known name is added to the cast, and it will be interesting to see if the film can also lure back Meg Ryan, Goose’s partner in the first film. The actress has been very selective about what roles she takes on over the last decade or so.

Production has yet to officially kick off for the film, but it’s expected to do so very soon. Top Gun: Maverick is currently scheduled to hit cinemas July 12, 2019.
