Mount Eerie, a project of Washington-based musician and producer Phil Elverum, and Julie Doiron, a Canadian singer-songwriter first came together in 2008, when they recorded their first collaborative album, Lost Wisdom.
Now the duo is back announcing another release, titled simply Lost Wisdom 2. The album is due to premiere on November 8 via Mount Eerie’s label P.W. Elverum & Sun. Alongside the news came a brand new track called “Love Without Possession”.
Elverum and Doiron are scheduled to perform together starting in December. A press release states that the shows will “likely be the only performance of this album’s material for the foreseeable future”. The duo shared the dates of their upcoming concerts, as well as the full tracklisting of the new album.
“[Julie Doiron] has been my favorite singer since 1993 when I first heard her band Eric’s Trip and subsequently devoted my life to music and art”, Elverum revealed. “We made another record in 2008 called Lost Wisdom, more flames, more love, more turmoil. Now we get to do some more singing and playing together”.
Mount Eerie also disclosed some of the inspirations behind the forthcoming album. The material will tackle the death of his wife, the artist Geneviève Castrée, a theme he explored in his two previous solo recors. The musician also refers to his marriage to Michelle Williams, followed by their recent separation.
