Set to be released on May 14 on Netflix, we finally have the first official trailer for the limited series Halston about fashion designer Roy Halson Frowick. This upcoming series was produced by Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story, Glee), with and Ewan McGregor, who plays Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, cast as Roy Halston Frowick.
The series will be based on Steven Gaines‘ 1991 novel entitled Simply Halston. Sharr White has penned the script and Daniel Minahan has directed the series. Minahan previously worked with Murphy on the fashion-leaning series American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace.
The miniseries will talk about the supersonic rise followed by the catastrophic decline of the influential American fashion designer who rose to fame in the ’70s for his minimalist yet glamorous ready-to-wear, Roy Halson Frowick. He passed away in 1990, however, his legacy still carries on.
Halston is often considered as the first American celebrity fashion designer. He dressed icons such as Iman, Bianca Jagger, and Liza Minnelli. He was often photographed with the stars at former disco nightclub Studio 54, which helped strengthen his image as well as his influence.
The fashion designer also battled a cocaine addiction, a common addiction during the reign of disco. “Halston thrived on it,” fashion editor André Leon Talley wrote of the stimulant in his memoir, The Chiffon Trenches. “He was known to partake and afterward stay up and change a whole collection overnight. Presto: a masterpiece.”
In the trailer that was released, the visual opens with Halston looking at the New York City skyline through his window as we hear him say “I have a vision. I’m going to change the face of American fashion.” The song “Enjoy The Silence” by Depeche Mode comes along with flashes of the designer’s life.
The trailer ends with McGregor’s ominous voiceover, beckoning the question: “Do you ever feel like everything you have could disappear in an instant?”
The other actors set to appear in Halston are Rebecca Dylan playing fellow designer Elsa Peretti, Krysta Rodriguez as Liza Minnelli, and Vera Farmiga as a character named Adele.
