Earlier this year, things got heated when Nicki Minaj tweeted about “Anaconda” not getting nominated for ‘Video Of The Year’ at the VMAs, saying, amongst other things, that “if your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year”. Taylor Swift responded, assuming the tweet was aimed at her. This caused members of the public and other artists to give their two cents, with Swift later apologizing.
On August 28, The New York Times posted an interview with Miley Cyrus. One of the questions asked was what she thought of the Minaj and Swift controversy. Cyrus said that she “didn’t follow it” but gave her own opinion which didn’t paint Minaj in a great light: “What I read sounded very Nicki Minaj, which, if you know Nicki Minaj is not too kind. It’s not very polite”.
This led to Minaj calling her out and calling her a “bi**h” after her acceptance speech for ‘Best Hip Hop Video’ at the VMAs. Cyrus stated that “we all know how [the industry] manipulate s**t”, congratulated her on her award, then carried on hosting. Minaj was evidently still vexed. You can watch the exchange here.
Everything was cool and then Nicki Minaj freaked the fuck out on Miley Cyrus #VMAs
