Fresh off starring together in Aaron Sorkin‘s Being The Ricardos, Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem are quickly set to collaborate on another project. This one is an animated musical titled Spellbound that has already secured breakout West Side Story star Rachel Zegler for the lead role.
Spellbound will follow Princess Ellian who finds herself embarking on a quest to save the day after a spell turns her family and kingdom into monsters. Kidman and Bardem are joining the film as the Princess’ parents, the “kind and just, yet hyper-precise Queen” and “the boastful yet big-hearted King,” respectively.
The King, Queen, and Princess must work together to find a way to break the curse before it’s too late and darkness takes hold of their kingdom forever.
The movie is being developed for Apple and has Shrek co-director Vicky Jenson at the helm.
Lauren Hynek, Elizabeth Martin, and Linda Woolverton have written the script, while Oscar winner Alan Menken (Aladdin, Beauty And The Beast) will be writing original songs and a score for the film alongside lyricist Glenn Slater.
As mentioned, Kidman and Bardem were very recently seen starring together in Being The Ricardos, playing the iconic real-life couple of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz during their stint on legendary 50s sitcom I Love Lucy.
Spellbound will also feature the voice talents of John Lithgow, Nathan Lane, Jenifer Lewis, André De Shields, and Jordan Fisher. The film is being developed by Skydance Animation.
Despite Kidman and Bardem’s recent arrival to the project, Spellbound is currently scheduled to be released on Apple TV+ on Friday, November 11.
