Nicole Scherzinger Joins Cast Of ‘Dirty Dancing’ Remake | TV News
Former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger has joined Abigail Breslin and Debra Messing as a cast member in ABC’s TV film adaption of 80’s classic Dirty Dancing.
According to the latest reports, Scherzinger will play the role of Penny: the dancing partner of Johnny whose pregnancy prevents her from dancing and thereby precipitates the romance between Johnny and Baby. Already in the cast are Breslin as Baby, Messing as Baby’s mother and Coll Prattes as dancing instructor Johnny Castle.
For those unfamiliar with the story, Dirty Dancing follows the story of Baby, a rich girl vacationing in the Catskill Mountains at the Kellerman’s resort. While there she is introduced to dancing by working-class dance instructor Johnny Castle, later becoming his partner when Penny becomes pregnant. Their partnership soon flowers into a romance which threatens Johnny’s job and Baby’s relationship with her family.
The 3 hour TV adaption will attempt to recreate the feeling of the original, which starred Jennifer Grey as Baby, the late Patrick Swayze as Johnny and Cynthia Rhodes as Penny. Scherzinger has been amassing experience in acting and musicals recently, having appeared in Rent at the Hollywood Bowl and starring as Grizabella in a 2014 London revival of Cats.
ABC have yet to announce when their Dirty Dancing will appear on our screens.
