OBEY Founder Shepard Fairey Makes NFT Debut With ‘OBEY Ideal Power’ Mural | Arts

Artist, illustator, activist and creator of the OBEY clothing brand Shepard Fairey has made his first NFT (Non Fungible Token) sale. The idea that is becoming increasingly popular in the art world allows for creators to sell their piece of art in a dematerialized way.

The renowned American street artist will auction off an NFT of his Ideal Power mural on Monday, March 29, as part of the Verisart 10×10 auction, with a part of his sales proceeds going to Amnesty National.

Fairey joins other famous creators like Petra Cortright or Mark Titchner on the auction, with these NFT sales and auctions more and more redefining the codes of the art business.

Fairey is known for his singular approach to art and its meaning. He stated that “In an attempt to manifest the ideals I champion in my art in the real world, I will be donating a portion of the proceeds from this work to Amnesty International to support their important human rights efforts”.

For the artist, this sale is a good way to show that art has power and impact that can be used to raise awareness for important political and social causes, such as the ones that are defended by the charity that profits of the auction will be donated to.

The sale will be launched on Versiat on March 29 at 1:00 pm EDT.
