Obi-Wan Kenobi Film In The Works To Extend ‘Star Wars’ Universe | Film News

The universe is expanding! The Star Wars universe, that is. With Episode VIII, Episode IX, and the Han Solo spin-off film all yet to be released, another spanner is being thrown in the works, this time revolving around Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Stephen Daldry is in early talks for the project centering on Kenobi, a character that has been played by both Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor. Who’ll portray the lead is a mystery, as a script is not attached and a timeline uncertain.

The film would be the second character concentrated spin off after the Han Solo stand-alone film set to premiere 2018. The film is currently in the final stages of shooting under new director Ron Howard. Reportedly, Lucasfilm is looking to develop Yoda and Boba Fett movies.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is known as being the Jedi mentor to young Luke Skywalker, before he was killed by former pupil Darth Vader, the artist formerly known as Anakin Skywalker. The role earned first actor Alec Guinness an Oscar nomination for the role.

Stephen Daldry is also an Oscar-nominated creative. He boasts a small but incredibly impressive resume, directing Billy Elliot (2002), The Reader (2008), and should-have-beaten-Chicago-at-the-Oscars The Hours (2002). His heading of the project is certain to produce a piece of visual beauty.
