Olympia Musician Joy Autumn Shares Nirvana Cover ‘Something In The Way‘

Olympia singer, songwriter, and producer Joy Autumn has shared her new cover of the Nirvana classic “Something In The Way”. Her rendition is a very soft and soothing track that you will appreciate.

The passion for music has been with her since she was a little girl, but she found it hard to believe that a young girl from such a small town in Washington State could one day offer her great opportunities. However, that was before Nirvana came on the scene, the band from the same town gave the young artist hope.

Joy Autumn confides on the origin of her song, “‘Something In The Way’ is my favorite Nirvana song. Kurt wrote it a couple of miles from my childhood home in Olympia, WA in 1990, and when in 2020 I found myself once again living at home during the pandemic, I recorded it in my childhood bedroom. I’ve always wanted to do a tribute to my local songwriting hero, and honor him for the way his music has inspired and changed my life.”

After a successful run with the release of her most recent album, Midnight, which led to sold out shows in Los Angeles, and features in the likes LA Weekly, Autumn eventually moved back home to Olympia during the pandemic, which gave her the space to rediscover herself and revisit her sound.

With her latest endeavour, an album of Nirvana cover songs that pays tribute to her hometown hero composer, the late Kurt Cobain, Joy bases her relationship with nature and the region’s indigenous peoples in the North-east corner of the Pacific Ocean.

Autumn chose the songs Kurt Cobain wrote while living at 114 Pear Street in Olympia, Washington, just two miles from his childhood home for this cover album, with “Something In The Way” being the first taste of the project.
