Patty Jenkins Signs Overall TV Deal With Netflix | TV News

Patty Jenkins is the latest big name to hop on board the Netflix train. The Wonder Woman director has signed an overall TV deal with the streaming giant. It’s a multi-year pact worth around $10 million that will see her create, develop and produce new series.

While she’s best known as a feature filmmaker, Jenkins has plenty of previous TV experience. She directed the pilot for Betrayal as well as the Season 2 finale for AMC’s The Killing, which won a DGA Award and earned an Emmy nomination. She recently produced and directed two episodes of the noir mini-series I Am The Night, which starred Wonder Woman co-star Chris Pine.

VP of Netflix originals Channing Dungey said of the hire: “We’re thrilled to welcome Patty to Netflix. Her trailblazing work has pushed boundaries and she confidently tells stories that leave an unforgettable mark. We look forward to fostering her many ideas and helping them come to life”.

“I’m so excited to embark on a great journey of making the new world of television with a company and group of people I admire as much as Ted [Sarandos], Cindy [Holland], Channing [Dungey], Peter [Friedlander] and the team at Netflix”, Jenkins added. “I look forward to digging in to some great work together soon”.

This is great news for Jenkins, who has experienced a career renaissance since the success of Wonder Woman. Having directed the Oscar-winning serial killer drama Monster in 2003, she didn’t direct another film until the WWII superhero adventure 14 years later.

It speaks to the sexism of Hollywood that Jenkins wasn’t able to get anything made for over a decade after making a great film that won Charlize Theron an Oscar. At least now she’s finally getting the recognition and pay cheques she deserves.

She joins a roster of Netflix creative talent that makes the eyes bulge. It includes Ryan Murphy, Shonda Rhimes, Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss, and The Haunting of Hill House‘s Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy.

Jenkins is currently working on Wonder Woman 1984, which is scheduled to hit cinemas in June 2020.
