Peacock has given a straight-to-series order to Bupkis, a live-action comedy from Pete Davidson. The streamer reportedly bit out several other competitors for the rights.
Davidson will star in, co-write, and executive produce the series, which is being described as a fictionalized version of the comedian’s life that will combine grounded storytelling with absurd elements.
Davidson will write and executive produce the series alongside Dave Sirus and Judah Miller. Sirus has been a frequent writing partner of Davidson on both Saturday Night Live and The King Of Staten Island, which also contained autobiographical elements of Davidson’s life. Miller has previously written for shows like Crashing, American Dad, and King Of The Hill.
Susan Rovner, Chairman, Entertainment Content, NBCUniversal Television, and Streaming, said in a statement:
“Pete Davidson is one of the most sought-after comedians today with his smart, one-of-a-kind humor and honest point of view. Bupkis will showcase Pete’s funny, surprising and unfiltered brand of comedy audiences have come to love as we continue to bolster our Peacock comedy slate. We can’t wait to dive in with Lorne Michaels, Broadway Video and our partners at Universal Television.”
While Davidson is still a part of the SNL roster, it feels like his time on the show is winding down as he gets more opportunities with other projects. He recently appeared in a supporting role in romcom I Want You Back, and has A24 slasher Bodies Bodies Bodies and comedies Good Morning and Meet Cute coming soon. Bupkis should only further prove that he’s a breakout star.
