Pharrell Williams Takes A Knee In Charlottesville Protest | Music News

Yesterday on September, 24 many artists such as Pharrell Williams, Coldplay, Ariana Grande and Justine Timberlake performed at a Concert for Charlottesville, at the University of Virginia’s Scott Stadium.

It was a charity benefit concert organized after the white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia ended in deadly violence last month. It was hosted by Dave Matthews and the night was billed as “an evening of music and unity.”. Indeed the concert was free but all the fans were urged to make a donation for the victims of this terrible event.

Pharrell Williams, after having sung some of his last songs like “Get Lucky” and Blurred Lines“, he knelt on the set and he said “If I want to get on my knees right now for the people of my city, for the people of my state, that’s what this flag is for“.

Before this supportive concert, there had been a weekend in which football and baseball players took a knee to silently protest injustice towards people of color.
