Philadelphia based artist Lia Menaker has released a new single titled “Losing My Mind”
Menaker first made her mark on the Philly music scene in 2020, when she released her self-produced debut EP I Am Kyrøs. Menaker has been hard at work since then, releasing new music, one after the oher, experimenting with unique mixtures of deep vocals, electronic and vocal surfaces, and space.
The voice is the most inherent, flexible, passionate instrument we have, Menaker said of her new song’s inspiration, “The limitless distinct textures and combinations you can make with just the human voice amazes me“.
She continues by saying that “vocal experimentation in Losing My Mind was mainly about the ending. In the beginning, I emulated instruments… had fun with whatever vocal sounds or screeches I instinctively felt… reversed parts… lowered some by full octaves… I wanted the song to develop into something weird and wacky. You might as well start going crazy yourself if you’re going to write a song about it. By the time it was done, I really thought I went crazy“.
“Losing My Mind” melds Menaker’s trademark soulful voice with a smooth, darker pop groove you can’t help but bop to, thanks to its infectious hook and vocal stylings. And, as we emerged from a long, COVID-filled season, it appears to be arriving at just the right time.
