Once the Justice League assembles in a little over a week, focus will shift to solo movies for the crew and new introductions into the now less-concerned-with-interconnected-universes DCEU. One of those will be Nightwing, and while there’s thus far little news about the Batman protégé, director of the film Chris McKay implied yesterday on Twitter that it might not be someone we instantly recognise.
We haven’t started the process of casting NIGHTWING yet but when we do you’ll hear something because our search will be far and wide

Much like the casting of Gal Gadot and Henry Cavill as Wonder Woman and Superman, respectively, it makes sense for McKay to leave the door open for an unknown actor to come in and grab the role.
Obviously, Wonder Woman and Superman are larger than life heroes that almost demand a relatively unknown actor take the role to not overshadow the character, while Nightwing isn’t as much of a household name, but considering the role might be a bit of an audition for who becomes the next Batman, it’s not a bad idea to bring in an unknown actor, get them accustomed to the role before handing over the reigns to the world’s greatest detective.
McKay also went on to add that, providing there’s a great script, pre-production on the film could begin next year.
DC will be crossing their fingers that they can continue their hot streak with Justice League after Wonder Woman recently became the highest grossing superhero film of all time, but after that, focus will shift to (relatively) smaller films like Nightwing to carry the water for the franchise.
Justice League arrives in cinemas Friday, November 17.
