Kevin From Work‘s Punam Patel is set as a series regular in NBC’s single-camera comedy pilot The Kenan Show from Universal TV, alongside Kenan Thompson and Andy Garcia.

Formerly known as Saving Kenan, The Kenan Show centres on a newly widowed dad (Thompson) determined to be everything for his kids while begrudgingly letting his persistent father-in-law, Percy (Garcia), a retired police officer, become more involved in their lives. Patel will play Kenan’s loyal friend and co-worker Erica.

Patel, who played the series regular role of Patti on Kevin From Work, most recently recurred on Fox’s comedy series The Cool Kids and in Amy Poehler’s NBC series I Feel Bad. Her other previous TV credits include Freeform’s Alone Together and TV’s Adam Ruins Everything, Return of the Mac and the upcoming Rim of the World.

The Kenan Show pilot is written by Jackie Clarke (Superstore) and directed by Chris Rock (Head of State), who will both executive produce alongside Thompson. Lorne Michaels and Andrew Singer will also serve as executive producers. Universal Television will produce in association with Michaels’ Broadway Video.

The Kenan Show is part of a NBC scripted comedy pilot made up of multi-cam Friends-in-Law, which was previously in development in 2018; Like Magic, about a young woman trying to become a headlining magician; musical comedy Perfect Harmony; Sunnyside, which stars Kal Penn as a New York councilman who finds his purpose working with immigrants; Uninsured, about a young couple taking in one set of in-laws; and newspaper comedy Village Gazette.
