Pussy Riot – Police State | Music Video

Pussy Riot have just released a new single titled “Police State”, and an accompanying music video for it. This Moscow-based feminist punk-rock band has never been afraid of brave statements related to politics and human rights, and that’s how Nadya Tolokonnikova, a group member, presents the idea of a new piece:

If we find a way how to act together, be articulate, focused and persuasive, we can shift mountains”. The artist believes in the power of protests and encourages people to make the difference: “People don’t believe in the enormous power that they have but for some reason don’t use”, Nadya tries to prove that people can make the institutions work better and admits that they do fight the police state in Russia.

The release date of the single was not chosen accidentally. It’s the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution and also 1 year has passed since Donald Trump was elected as a president. Since the band’s beginning, the girls have been fighting against what they consider to be an authoritarian leadership and discrimination.

Nadya Tolokonnikova is now also co-creating the immersive political theatre production titled Inside Pussy Riot which will run at London’s Saatchi Gallery from November 14 to December 24. You can find more information about this here.
