American singer Obii has just released a brand new single called “Second Wind”. There’s also a music video available for the song.
The R&aB piece is the second single announcing Obii’s new forthcoming project, released after “I Feel So High”, unveiled in mid-2020. Before that, he released an album named Black Boy Free, Vol. 1 in 2017 under the name of Pierrot Obi.
“Second Wind” is kind of a prayer: in this song, the singer narrates the story of someone finding themselves at a crossroad, and ends up choosing redemption, forgiveness and acceptance. That’s what the song is all about, it represents hope and transformation. This story behind the track is clearly autobiographical, and lets us catch a glimpse at Obii’s songwriting abilities.
Furthermore, the lyrics of the song are highlighted by Obii’s soul-imbued and emotional voice.
Obii is a new emerging artist, but he has already toured as a backing vocalist for the likes of Brandt Brauer Frick and Beaver Sheppard, and is a session singer for several acts (Lee “Scratch” Perry, The Supermen Lovers, Ebony Bones…).
