Reese Witherspoon has signed on to star in All Stars, a comedy series in development at Amazon Prime Video. She will play a former cheerleader who cons her way into teaching cheerleading at a school in England. Despite bluffing her way to the gig, throughout the series she manages to show her team, as well as herself, how to be a star.
The series is inspired by the true story of Andrea Kulberg, an American woman who taught cheerleading to teenagers in the UK. Aline Brosh McKenna has created the series and will also direct multiple episodes and serve as showrunner. Brosh McKenna previously worked with Witherspoon on Netflix film Your Place or Mine, which will be released next year.
Witherspoon will also executive produce the series for her Hello Sunshine banner alongside Lauren Neustadter. Amazon have already given the show a two-season order. Brosh McKenna said in a statement:
“Reese is my longtime hero and I’m so thrilled we got to go from making a movie together to this fantastic TV opportunity, brought to me by her and the iconic Lauren Neustadter. So excited to bring this world and these characters to life! The folks at Amazon have already been so enthusiastic and supportive, I’m very excited to join their roster of talent.”
Witherspoon added: “I love that this show is filled with real heart, deep joy and the power of teamwork. I can’t wait to partner with the brilliant, hilarious, and talented Aline McKenna yet again to create a truly original comedic character, and with the team at Amazon whose passion for this project was unparalleled.”
There’s no word yet on when All Stars will premiere on Prime Video. The aforementioned Your Place Or Mine, Witherspoon’s romantic comedy for Amazon rival Netflix that will also star Ashton Kutcher, will premiere on February 10, 2023.
