Academy Award winning actress, Renée Zellweger, is set to star in a new World War II Drama titled, Avengers Field.
The one-hour drama series is based on the true events of WW2 pilot Jacqueline Cochran. Cochran was a pioneer of female aviation and was the leader of a secretive US Air Force program named Women AirForce Service Pilot (WASPS) founded in August 1943. Zellweger, who is best known for her role in Bridget Jones, will be playing Cochran.
News of the show comes on the same day as the release of Zellweger’s true crime drama, Thing Thing About Pam. In the mini-series, the 52-year-old actress plays Pam Hupp, a Missouri native who murdered Betsy Faria in 2011 and Louis Gumpenberger in 2016.
Zellweger’s role as Pam Hupp and now as Jacqueline Cochran reflect her past work where she has similarly played real life people based on true events. For example, in 2019 Zellweger played Judy Garland in the biopic Judy, which she won her forth Oscar for Best Actress.
Felicia D. Henderson will be the writer, showrunner and executive producer for Avengers Field and it will be directed by Susanna White (The Deuce, Generation Kill).
A release day has not yet been announced however we do know that it will be available to stream on NBC and Peacock.
