Rizzle Kicks has put a very British mark on the classic “Summertime” anthem. The hit was released in 1991 by DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince (Will Smith) and won them a Grammy Award for ‘Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group’. The song has been recorded for online retail clothing store Very.co.uk, who will be offering 10,000 free downloads of the track. The new version has had the verses re-written but the famous chorus has mainly been untouched. DJ Jazzy Jeff heard the new version and apparently loved it so much that he came straight over to London to film the video with the duo.
In a statement Jazzy Jeff said, “Every summer I’m proud to hear ‘Summertime’ being played on the airwaves and at summer parties around the world, the original video was so much fun for Will Smith and I to shoot, with all our friends, having one big party. ‘Summertime’ represents a very important time in my life and career, so to have the opportunity to relive it with Rizzle Kicks was awesome – I can’t wait to hear the UK’s reaction to this track, fresh once again“. Also appearing in the video is Xtra Factor presenter Rochelle Humes. Watch Rizzle Kicks “Summertime” reboot here.
