J. K. Rowling‘s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them already has an impressive cast. Directed by David Yates, who brought four of the Harry Potter books to life, the spinoff stars Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander; Britain’s preeminent ‘Magizoologist’. After years of research, Scamander is all set to publish his definitive guide to the magical beasts that inhabit the world. After a layover in New York runs wildly out of control, the young scientist comes into contact with individuals even stranger than his subjects. Joining Redmayne will be Katherine Waterson, Ezra Miller, Colin Farrell, Dan Fogler, Samantha Morton, Jon Voight and Gemma Chan. Now, THR is reporting Ron Perlman will be entering the wizarding world, though maybe not in the role you would expect.
The Sons of Anarchy star will join the cast of Fantastic Beasts as a Goblin. These creatures will be familiar to fans of the Harry Potter series, where they are portrayed a diminutive, cold, and often greedy beings. As the proprietors of Gringotts Wizarding Bank, Goblins refuse to take sides in the Voldermort conflict. It is not yet known what role Perlman‘s Goblin will have in the film, however it seems unlikely he will be an ally to Scamander. This will not be the first time Ron Perlman has drastically altered his appearance for a role; Guillermo del Toro‘s Hellboy series required the actor wear full body and facial prosthetics, which could take up to twelve hours to apply.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is currently shooting in London, and will be released on November 18, 2016.
