Russell Crowe has jumped on board Unhinged, a psychological road rage thriller to be directed by Derrick Borte. Carl Ellsworth (Disturbia, Red Eye) has written the script, Lisa Ellzey (Warrior) is producing, and Solstice Studios will head into production on their first ever film.
The film “takes an ordinary, everyday incident to its most terrifying conclusion” through telling the story of a mother who leans on her horn at the wrong time, to the wrong guy. Crowe will play the “wrong guy”. Infamous in the past for his off-screen temper, perhaps the actor found something close to home in the character.
Solstice Studios was founded in October with plans to produce three to five movies per year for a global audience. The idea is for each film to sit in the $20 million – $80 million range, and Unhinged is their first crack at Hollywood. While there isn’t a deep synopsis yet, the premise contains enough intrigue that something interesting and exciting could spawn from it.
The studio is targeting a wide, third quarter 2020 release.
Crowe recently starred in Boy Erased, and has a couple of interesting projects lined up. One is an adaptation of Peter Carey‘s acclaimed Australian novel True History Of The Kelly Gang, and another is the Showtime limited series The Loudest Voice, where Crowe will play Roger Ailes.
