Emerging from a backdrop of war and displacement, the acclaimed Russian rock band, Apache Rose, is making waves with their latest single, “Cabin Fever.” This new track has come at a pivotal time for the group, as they’ve recently relocated to Georgia in the wake of the ongoing war in their homeland.
Founded by Ilya Novokhatskiy, Apache Rose’s roots lie deeply embedded in the nostalgia of the 90’s grunge and alternative scenes. Their sound – an electrifying blend that revives this past era while infusing it with their own unique energy – is expected to evolve further in their forthcoming album.
Fans who eagerly await this new release received a sneak peek with “Cabin Fever,” which hints at a heavier tone, aggressive drumming, and a clear influence from iconic bands like the Pixies and Nirvana.
The story of Apache Rose’s recent journey is as captivating as their music. Following the outbreak of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Novokhatskiy made the tough decision to leave Russia for Georgia. Many Russians, in fact, have chosen Georgia as their refuge amidst the war’s devastation.
Recording is currently underway at Sano Studio in Tbilisi, Georgia, with Novokhatskiy undertaking a more significant role than ever. Due to the challenges posed by the move and current geopolitical events, he is tracking all instruments – except for the drums.
As Novokhatskiy mentioned in a Facebook post, “Apache Rose has always been more of a solo project.” This is evident as he played and co-produced multiple tracks in their debut album “Attention!”.
Collaborating on the new album is Anton Boyko, the maestro behind their first album, and Ilya Lukashev, a renowned Russian mixing and recording engineer. Novokhatskiy speaks highly of Boyko, drawing parallels between him and legendary producer Bob Rock. He has also teased that the album will feature more textured sounds.
While the exact release date remains a mystery, late 2023 has been hinted at as a potential timeframe. If “Cabin Fever” is any indication of what’s to come, enthusiasts are in for a treat.
