Salma Hayek In Talks To Join Angelina Jolie In Marvel’s ‘The Eternals’ | Film News

Salma Hayek is in talks to join the MCU. She’s reportedly negotiating with Marvel for a significant role in upcoming film The Eternals. Quite the cast is already in place – Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani, and Richard Madden are all on board. Even more excitingly, Chloe Zhao, director of the wonderful film The Rider, is helming the project.

Hayek’s potential role remains a mystery right now. The comic book series, created in 1976 by Jack Kirby, follows the titular super-powered and near-immortal beings and their enemies The Deviants, who were created by cosmic beings called Celestials.

The Eternals aren’t as traditionally popular as other Marvel heroes, but they do have a familial link to Thanos, which could prove crucial as an introduction for new fans.

Zhao is directing from a script written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. However, many sources believe another writer will come on board. Why? Because, curiously, Jolie hasn’t yet officially closed her deal. That’s despite being involved in the film for close to a year. Many believe she may be waiting on a rewrite from someone she trusts. Don’t be surprised if a new screenwriting addition is soon announced.

There’s a lot of things up in the air right now regarding The Eternals. With many unfamiliar with the source material, hopefully we’ll soon hear who Hayek is playing, and can then perhaps pinpoint what comic Marvel is (half-)adapting.

Until then, Hayek can be seen in Sally Potter‘s drama Molly alongside Laura Linney, Elle Fanning, Javier Bardem and Chris Rock.

She’ll also appear in the comedy Limited Partners with Tiffany Haddish and Rose Byrne, while she just wrapped on the sequel The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, which stars Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson.
