Sarah Silverman is the latest to join the high-profile sports drama Battle of the Sexes which will feature the legendary match between tennis legends Bobby Riggs (Steve Carell) and Billie Jean King (Emma Stone). She will play Gladys Heldman, founder of World Tennis magazine and vocal advocate for women’s tennis.
The symbolic game, which took place in 1973 was dubbed Battle of the Sexes and marked the second time a male and female player faced off against each other.
The highly publicized and televised event, which was pivotal for the future of women’s professional tennis, drew an audience of 90 million viewers worldwide. Every aspect from the road to the match itself made the headlines, while the opposite personalities of Riggs (Carell) and King (Stone) made for a memorable spectacle.
The tennis drama, which is expected to hit theaters in 2017, will be brought to life by the creative team behind Little Miss Sunshine and the cast is slowly rounding up with key players Steve Carell and Emma Stone, as well as Sarah Silverman, Elizabeth Shue, Andrea Risenborough and Austin Stowell in supporting roles.
