Scarlett Johansson, Penélope Cruz, Michael Fassbender & Owen Wilson In Talks For Nancy Meyers Netflix Movie

An all-star cast is circling Nancy Meyers‘ return to directing. Scarlett Johansson, Penélope Cruz, Michael Fassbender, and Owen Wilson are all reportedly in talks to star in Meyers’ upcoming big-budget comedy for Netflix. Titled Paris Paramount, the film will mark her first film since 2015’s The Intern.

The film tells the story of an above-the-line filmmaking duo who begrudgingly reunite on set after falling in and out of love with one another. Meyers will direct from her own script and also serve as producer on the project, which sources tell Deadline has a budget exceeding $100M.

Meyers is best known for her romantic comedies such as It’s Complicated, Something’s Gotta Give, and What Women Want. Her films were a staple of mid-2000s Hollywood, until the big-budget, star-driven romantic comedy fell out of fashion. But she was always one of the best working in the genre.

Netflix is hoping that giving one of the most consistent and beloved directors of the genre a big budget and a stacked cast at her disposal can attract subscribers and help bring the genre back into fashion. Recent films like Ticket To Paradise and The Lost City have shown that there’s still an audience for those kinds of films.

There’s no production date yet as deals are still being worked out.

Johansson will next be seen in Wes Anderson‘s Asteroid City and Greg Berlanti‘s Project Artemis. Cruz’s next project will be alongside Adam Driver in Michael Mann‘s Ferrari.

Fassbender’s upcoming slate includes David Fincher‘s anticipated Netflix film The Killer and Taika Waititi‘s Next Goal Wins. Wilson will next be seen in Bob Ross biopic Paint and Disney’s Haunted Mansion.
