Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The First Avenger) and Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person In The World) have signed on to star in A Different Man, a psychological thriller in development at A24.
Stan will star as Edward, a man seeking a new life and a fresh start after he undergoes facial reconstructive surgery. However, he realises he will find it harder to get a fresh start than initially hoped after he becomes fixated on the man starring as him in his former life in a stage production.
The film will be directed by Aaron Schimberg, who is no stranger to projects about facial differences, as his 2018 film Chained For Life told the story of a beautiful 1950s movie star who struggles to reconcile herself with the physical differences of her co-star.
Stan is well known to audiences for his role as Bucky Barnes aka The Winter Soldier in the MCU, as well as his recent turn as cannibalistic villain in Fresh. Reinsve has grabbed audience’s attention in the last year for her fabulous performance in the lead role of Joachim Trier‘s drama The Worst Person In The World.
A Different Man will also star Adam Pearson, having previously collaborated with Schimberg on Chained For Life, who has neurofibromatosis, a condition that affects his physical appearance. He is involved in many outreach programs to prevent bullying of those with physical differences.
Filming on the project is expected to begin next month. A24 have had an impressive year thanks to the release of Everything Everywhere All At Once, X, Men, and After Yang, so there will be hype for this and any project stemming from the studio for a while.
A24’s upcoming slate includes comedy Marcel The Shell With Shoes On and slasher Bodies Bodies Bodies.
