Shailene Woodley, Cara Delevingne & Noémie Merlant To Star In Genre Biopic About Patricia Highsmith

Shailene Woodley, Cara Delevingne, and Noémie Merlant are set to star in a genre biopic of celebrated author Patricia Highsmith.

Killer Films is producing the film, which is titled The Murderous Miss Highsmith, and will reimagine the author’s life as a horror movie, focusing on the formative period just before she wrote her most celebrated work – The Talented Mr. Ripley – which was partly inspired by her doomed relationships with two women.

The project aims to get inside the mind of the author, who will be played by Woodley, and reveal her fascination for gruesome murders, and exploring how her tumultuous love life influenced her persona. Delevingne and Merlant will both face off against Woodley as her companions.

Alexandra Pechman is aboard to direct, which will mark her first feature film following genre short Thumb. Dead Ringers cinematographer Laura Merians Goncalves is also attached.

Highsmith is best known for her psychological thrillers including the Ripley novels, Strangers On A Train, and The Price Of Salt (which became Carol on screen). Her work has been adapted dozens of times for screen, but her uncompromising personal life has also been the subject of many column inches. This should be a fascinating mix of both.

Woodley is currently filming Killer Heat for Amazon, and also has comedy Dumb Money and Michael Mann‘s Ferrari lined up.

Delevingne was recently seen in Only Murders In The Building and is set to appear in the new season of American Horror Story. Merlant is best known for Portrait of a Lady on Fire and Tár.

Filming on The Murderous Miss Highsmith is expected to take place in Italy sometime in the autumn.
