Silja Rós, the talented Icelandic artist, has released a new song titled “…real love“. This groovy R&B pop track is perfect for easy listening and has a nostalgic summer vibe. Silja’s latest singles have been climbing the Icelandic National Radio Charts on Rás 2 and Bylgjan, and she was even nominated as Iceland’s new rising star at the Bylgjan Listening Awards in 2023.
Silja Rós is known for her love of harmonies and jazz chords. She draws inspiration from artists like Jacob Collier, Yebba, and Olivia Dean. Her new song “…real love” captures these influences perfectly.
Silja shares, “I wrote ‘…real love’ about my time in LA, where I lived for a couple of years. I lived in the same building as many of my friends, so the vibe was kind of like in ‘Friends’. We had a rooftop pool, and it was easy to forget the time there. The energy was amazing; we were all following our dreams but also enjoying every moment. The song is about that feeling – enjoying a warm summer day with your friends and forgetting the time.”
The song was arranged by Silja Rós along with Magnus Dagsson and producer Stefán Örn Gunnlaugsson. Silja’s band features Magnus Dagsson on guitar and Rhodes, Baldur Kristjánsson on bass, and Kristófer Nökkvi on drums.
Silja Rós has been a part of the singer-songwriter scene in Reykjavík since she was 16 years old. Her love for music was evident early on, and she taught herself to play guitar and piano before pursuing further education in music. Songwriting has always been a form of therapy for her, and her lyrics are heartfelt and based on her own life experiences.
In 2017, Silja Rós released her debut album, focusing on folk and indie music. After studying jazz, her music shifted more toward neo-soul and jazz-influenced R&B pop. Artists like Frank Ocean and RAYE also inspire her music. Her previous albums have been selected as the album of the week on Rás 2, and she even competed in the Eurovision pre-competition ‘Söngvakeppnin’ with her song “Together We Grow” in 2023.
Currently, Silja Rós is working on her third album, …letters from the past, which is set to be released in 2024. “This is by far my favorite album that I’ve worked on. During the process, I made sure to hold on to my passion and stay true to myself regarding songwriting and arrangements. I love arranging harmonies, and Magnus and I have spent endless hours on detailed arrangements. I am so excited for the release,” Silja says.
Apart from her music career, Silja Rós is also a known actress and scriptwriter in Iceland. Her TV series SKVÍZ, which she wrote and starred in, was a huge success. With “…real love”, Silja Rós provides a perfect addition to any summer playlist, bringing back memories of warm days and good times with friends.
