Actor and Director Sir Kenneth Branagh is set to follow in the footsteps of Quentin Tarantino, Judi Dench, Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter when he is honoured at the 2016 London Critics’ Circle Film Awards in January. Branagh will receive the Dilys Powell Award for Excellence in Film, an award named after the late British author and renowned Sunday Times’s film critic.
Branagh stated, “as a young film-maker, I had the privilege of meeting Dilys Powell. She was passionate, rigorous, humane. Her criticism was illuminating, thoughtful and bracing“. He went on to say, “This recognition in her name is a great honour to me personally and very meaningful. My sincere thanks to the Critics’ Circle“.
