‘Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse’ Co-Director Peter Ramsey To Helm Vampire Thriller ‘Blood Count’

Peter Ramsey, co-director and one of the key voices behind the beloved Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, has been tapped to direct live action vampire thriller, Blood Count.

Paramount have reportedly picked up Ramsey’s spec script, which is being described as a supernatural thriller set in 1950s Los Angeles. It will revolve around vampires, but is said to be loosely based on the life of Ramsey’s father, a jazz musician.

Alongside Spider-Verse, Ramsey also previously directed DreamWorks Animations’ Rise Of The Guardians back in 2012.

While it looks like this will be his first live action feature, he’s also attached to helm Love In Vain, a biopic about blues musician Robert Johnson. That’s also set up at Paramount, and it’s currently unclear which film will be worked on first.

LeBron James and Maverick Carter‘s production studio, SpringHill, will oversee Blood Count with Paramount. James will also serve as a producer alongside Jamal Henderson (Space Jam: A New Legacy) and Spencer Beighley, a producer on Adam Sandler‘s upcoming Netflix basketball film, Hustle.

SpringHill are also working on a remake of cult 90s comedy House Party and an adaptation of Jenny Craft‘s graphic novel New Kid.

Ramsey’s work in animation led to him becoming the first Black director to oversee a big studio animated film with Guardians and the first to win an Academy Award for Spider-Verse.

And he’s not leaving his animation roots behind, as he’ll produce the two upcoming Spider-Verse sequels, and is also directing and producing upcoming Netflix series, Lost Ollie.

We’ll wait and see whether Blood Count or Love In Vain become Ramsey’s official live action debut, but either way he’s certainly a directing name on the rise in both live-action and animation.
