US TV show host Stephen Colbert will host a series of reunions for the cast of The Lord Of The Rings as part of the free Alamo Drafthouse series aimed at encouraging audiences to return to their local independent theatres as the Covid-19 pandemic eases.

Colbert, a big fan of the trilogy, will be joined at first by Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd, and Dominic Monaghan. Together they will discuss The Fellowship of the Ring, the first film in the trilogy, for an event that will be shown on March 25 in all local cinemas that choose to host the free event.

Then, in a second episode, he will receive Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Viggo Mortensen and Liv Tyler to talk about the second part of the trilogy, The Two Towers, for a screening scheduled for April 1.

Finally, the third episode, broadcast on April 8, will feature Peter Jackson, Ian McKellen, and Andy Serkis. Together they will discuss Return Of The King, the final part of the trilogy.

Elijah Hood, who plays Frodo Baggings, played a big role in the reunion. He is the one who helped bring all his co-stars together for the meetings. “One of the experiences I miss most during this last year, beyond getting to hug my friends and travel, is sitting in a dark movie theater eagerly anticipating a new cinematic experience”, he said in a statement.

The Lord Of The Rings meetings is the first in a series of ‘Support Local Cinemas’ bonuses that will be provided to local independent cinemas for free, by Alamo Drafthouse to aid in getting moviegoers back to their venues.
