Steve McQueen’s New Movie ‘Widows’ Debuts Trailer Starring Viola Davis | Film Trailer

Four widows join forces and pull off a heist in the new Steve McQueen directed movie. The trailer for Widows stars Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Elizabeth Debicki and Cynthia Erivo as four women with nothing in common except the fact that they are left covered in debts by their dead husbands.

The movie signals the return of Steve McQueen after he swiped off the Academy Awards with his 12 Years a Slave directed flick.

Co-written by Gillian Flynn, the best-selling author who wrote Gone Girl and The Girl On The Train, Widows is a “blistering, modern-day thriller set against the backdrop of crime, passion and corruption. Set in contemporary Chicago, amid a time of turmoil, tensions build when Veronica, Linda, Alice and Belle take their fate into their own hands and conspire to forge a future on their own terms“.

Viola Davis is the lead in this female-centred thriller. The Oscar winner brings all the women together and sets up for a big heist against their husbands’ killers in this noir and violent window into the crime world.

It’s refreshing to see Davis finally getting the recognition she deserves after her stellar performance in Fences while Michelle Rodriguez is always a joy to watch, especially when it comes to action-packed, edgier movies.

Given that all of the four lead are solid choices to pull off this daunting thriller and with McQueen at the helm, the movie is sure to turn heads both at the box office and for the Awards season.

Rounding up the cast of this already stellar ensemble are Liam Neeson, Colin Farrell, Robert Duvall, Daniel Kaluuya, Lukas Haas and Brian Tyree Henry.

Be sure to catch the movie in theatres on November 16. In the meantime, enjoy the official trailer below:
