Storm Reid will play the daughter of Idris Elba’s character in the Suicide Squad sequel, Birds of Prey.
Her last film role was the protagonist Meg Murry in Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time in 2018.
She made her feature film debut in the Oscar-winning 12 Years a Slave as Emily, and currently stars in the HBO teen drama Euphoria alongside Zendaya.
James Gunn is directing the sequel to Suicide Squad, the 2016 film based on the DC Comics anti-heroes.
It will be produced by Peter Safran (Aquaman) and Charles Roven (The Dark Knight).
Guardians of the Galaxy director Gunn also wrote the sequel’s script.
The film follows Harley Quinn as she joins forces with Black Canary, the Huntress, and Renee Montoya to save Cassandra Cain from Gotham City crime lord Black Mask.
Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman, Jared Leto and Viola Davis will be reprising their roles, while Daniela Melchior will join new cast members John Cena, Ewan McGregor and Elba.
It was previously reported that Elba would be taking over for Will Smith in playing Deadshot in the sequel, but in April Variety revealed that Elba will play a new character in the film.
Though it was a critical flop, the original Suicide Squad became a surprise box office smash when it hit theatres in 2016, grossing $746.8 million worldwide.
Birds of Prey will hit cinemas on August 6, 2021.
