Taylor Swift Cancels Performance At Melbourne Cup 2019 | Music News

Following recent news of animal right activists complaining about Taylor Swift’s performance at this year’s Melbourne Cup, they are now taking credit after the singer announced that she is cancelling her scheduled performance.

According to SBC News, the management of The Victoria Racing Club has confirmed that Swift has withdrawn from performing live at the Melbourne Cup Day, where the artist was supposed to perform two tracks form her latest album Lover.

Swift booking had been receiving a lot of backlash from animal rights groups, who said that “Taylor Swift has put money before compassion by agreeing to perform at the 2019 Melbourne Cup,” and started a campaign to ask the iconic pop star to cancel the show and say #NupToTheCup.

However, it looks like Swift has other issues going on and the reason why she cancelled the performance has nothing to do with the campaign. “Regrettably, Taylor is no longer able to make it to this year’s Melbourne Cup,” said promoter Michael Gudinski in a statement last Saturday.

“Changes to her Asian promo schedule have made it logistically impossible for her to be here. To all of Taylor’s fans, we hope to see Taylor in Australia in 2020,” he then added.

The last time the singer visited the continent was back in 2018 for her Reputation stadium tour and this performance was supposed to be Swift’s only show in Australia this year. The news have left a lot of her fans really disappointed, including CEO of Victoria Racing Club, Neil Wilson.

Wilson said that the announcement is “obviously… is disappointing for everyone. We understand how important the pre-Cup entertainment is and we look forward to providing an update shortly.”
