Netflix’s continued bid to beef up the quality of their original film content continues. Below is the teaser for their adaptation of Death Note.
The film is based on the internationally popular Japanese manga of the same name, which follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook, realising it holds within it a great power; if the owner inscribes someone’s name into it while picturing their face, he or she will die.
It’s easy to see why a premise like that originally gained popularity, and why an English-language adaptation was an inevitability. The decision to truncate the series into a film is a curious one, and for fans of the original show it’ll be intriguing to see what plot points are cut out.
Netflix has brought together some quality talent for the film. Nat Wolff will star alongside Margaret Qualley, Keith Stanfield and Willem Dafoe. The film will be directed by Adam Wingard (The Guest, You’re Next).
The film will premiere globally on Netflix on Friday, August 25.
