Before the first film has even premiered, The Batman director Matt Reeves has claimed that he has ideas about a possible arc leading to a trilogy. Reeves acknowledges that “the important thing is just to start“, pointing out that he hadn’t planned the Apes arc.
Fans will be especially happy to hear the news if the possible trilogy all takes on the “noir-driven, detective version of Batman” that Reeves has hinted at.
It seems DC are looking to rival the ever growing Marvel Cinematic Universe with the release of more and more films, including the likes of Aquaman and Jusice League on the horoizon. Matt Reeves is looking to add to the collection if his ideas for a Batman arc do go ahead.
The Batman and any sequels would likely do well at box office; recently, Patty Jenkins‘ Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot, was a record breaking success, already enjoying $715 million at box office. It’s quite likely that audiences are tired of Marvel’s churning out of films and are looking to quench their thirst for superhero films elsewhere. Perhaps DC is the answer.
The Batman is currently expected to premiere in 2019.
