The first trailer for The Girl In the Spider’s Web, the new adaptation of the David Lagercrantz‘s sequels to the Millenium trilogy by Stieg Larsson, has just debuted online and it features a kick-ass Claire Foy as the tormented hacker Lisbeth Salander.
The remake picks up the story right where the The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo left off and it features a brand new cast for the Federico Alvarez‘s directed movie.
Fresh off her role as Queen Elizabeth in Netflix’s The Crown, Foy takes up the role previously played by Rooney Mara in the American version and Noomi Rapace in the original adaptation of the novels. The transformation to punk-hacker and women vigilante Lisbeth marks a decisive departure for Foy, who has to measure herself with a highly complicated character as well as a strong, opinionated fandom.
But from the first look that the trailer offers, Foy is on her way to succeed. The trailer seals and delivers what is expected from the Millenium trilogy. Full of action and mind-blowing scenes, it transports you in Salander’s dark world of criminals, harassers and cyber espionage, making up for a compelling thriller with a well-thought plot.
Even though Claire Foy’s acting abilities can’t be denied, as her last psychological horror Unsane, directed by Steven Soderbergh, confirmed, but it remains to see if the new remake will add up to the new trilogy or if it will fall flat of its predecessors.
