‘The Goonies’ To Be Adapted Into ‘Immersive’ Theatre Experience | Film News

The Goonies

I’m sure no matter what your age, at some point you have watched The Goonies – and I’m sure whilst watching it at some point you may have even wondered what it would have been like to be a Goonie. Well now you may be able to live out that dream. Richard Donner, director of The Goonies, has revealed that he is planning to create a new ‘immersive’ theatre experience which will let audience members pretend to be one of the Goonies.

I’ll pause for screams.

After speaking about how he wouldn’t have gone to see The Goonies himself, Donner told Yahoo! Movies that he was going to do an off-Broadway immersive theatre, “where there’s no seats, the venue is you go into a warehouse and there’s something happening in that warehouse and that’s the play you’ve come to see, only you become part of it and you travel through with actors“. He went on to say that “It will take another year or so but it’s going to be wonderful”.

Oh please let this be true, I always wanted to get up to hijinks with Mikey, Mouth, Data, Brand, Chunk, Andy and Stef. This year marks the 30th anniversary since the film hit the big screen, still no word on that sequel though.
