TIDAL Prepares Itself For A Wave Of Lawsuits From Jay-Z | Music News
It’s hard to think of a company that has had a more troubled history than TIDAL, but I’m afraid that things are about to get a lot worse. According to Nordic press, Rap God Jay-Z has his sights firmly set on the company’s bank balance as he tries to claim back his music rights mounting to a sum in the region of 100 million Norwegian Krone.
It is now over a year since this star bought both TIDAL and its sister company Aspiro but he always promised fair artist payments “even if it means less profit for our bottom line”. With over 3 million users, a tenth of Spotify’s user base, the streaming service has a long way to go before it can compete with the big boys but it’s ethos and running does seem to have a freshness about it.
TIDAL has been helped by big names such as Madonna, Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj not to mention Kanye West and Jay-Z himself, the user base has grown 2.5 million in just over a year since the buyout! Even if it does mean it will cost in the short-term, the music it provides should shine in the future.
