Tiffany Haddish has signed on to star in Mystery Girl, a movie in the works at Netflix. McG will direct, having previously helmed The Babysitter and Rim Of The World for the streamer. The film is based on the Dark Horse comic of the same name by Paul Tobin and Alberto Alburquerque.
Haddish will play a street psychic named Trine living off the grid in Los Angeles who has no memory of who she is or where she came from. However, she’s guided by an omniscient voice in her head that seems to know everyone else;s business, including their darkest secrets.
When a LAPD officer seeks out Trine, hoping that she’ll help him crack a case, the two are framed for murder and must work together to clear their names and solve two mysteries – the murder, and who Trine really is.
This sounds like an interesting role for the usually light-hearted and comedic Haddish, although she has shown her range in the last few years with mob drama The Kitchen and by taking a role in Paul Schrader‘s upcoming film, The Card Counter.
Haddish will also produce the film under her She Ready Productions banner. Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg will also produce for Dark Horse Entertainment, which has a first-look deal at Netflix.
Haddish has a bunch of interesting projects lined up. She recently wrapped comedic mystery series The Afterparty at Apple, while she’ll next be seen in action-comedy The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent in which Nicolas Cage plays himself. She’s also got hidden camera comedy Bad Trip, Billy Crystal‘s indie Here Today, and comedy thriller On The Count Of Three in the works.
