The quality of the latter puts the previous to shame, and finally it’s starting to show. Radio 1 breakfast DJ Nick Grimshaw’s audience has fallen still further whilst his Radio 2 rival Chris Evans has only increased his lion’s share of the audience ahead of his Top Gear hosting debut.

Grimshaw’s show had a weekly average of 5.4 million listeners, 1 million less than the first quarter last year. Overall, Radio 1’s audience fell to its second lowest ever, with an average reach of 9.9 million whilst Chris Evans enjoys an increase of 3 million listeners to take his listeners to 9.7 million in the first three months of this year.
