Transgender actress and comedian Bethany Black has been cast in a guest role in the upcoming series nine of Doctor Who. The comedian starred in Russell T Davies‘ Channel 4 series Cucumber and Banana earlier this year, she took to her Facebook to announce the news stating, “it is genuinely the greatest job I could ever have imagined getting. Everything about it is magical“.
Black also talked about filming her Doctor Who episodes, “I’m enjoying every day of filming and cherishing it, because you never know if you’ll ever get to do anything like this again“. It was reported that she wouldn’t play a transgender character, when discussing her role, she added that, “I only hope that I do the role and the show justice, and that you all enjoy it. For me it’s the gig of a lifetime“. Season 9 of Doctor Who premieres on BBC 1 on September 19.
