‘True Detective’ Creator Sets Directing Debut ‘Easy’s Waltz’ With Vince Vaughn

True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto is migrating from TV to the silver screen. He’s set for his first feature directing gig with Easy’s Waltz, an indie drama that will star Vince Vaughn, Michelle Monaghan, Al Pacino, and Simon Rex. Pizzollatto will also write the script.

The film is being described as Swingers meets A Star Is BornSwingers having starred Vaughn in arguably his breakout role. The story of Easy’s Waltz follows a down-on-his-luck comedian/crooner navigating modern Las Vegas with old-school Vegas personalities. That’s all the info anyone has right now.

The project will reunite both Pizzolatto and Vaughn, who collaborated on season two of True Detective, as well as Vaughn and Monaghan, who recently wrapped shooting together on the first season of Apple TV+ drama series Bad Monkey.

Pacino just wrapped production on Michael Keaton‘s Knox Go Away, while Rex stole the show in Sean Baker‘s Red Rocket a year or so ago.

Although little is known about the project, it will be fascinating to see what Pizzolatto can do on the big screen. True Detective – especially season one with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson – was a cultural phenomenon, which should always have audiences interested in what he’s working on.
