Twenty One Pilots Announce New Album And Drop New Single ‘Shy Away’ | Music News

Twenty One Pilots are finally back! The Ohio duo – composed of Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun – have dropped a brand new single entitled “Shy Away” along with its official video. They also have announced their upcoming album.

The album will be entitled Scaled and Icy, and will be their sixth one. It has been set to release on May 21 via Fueled By Ramen. Furthermore, they also announced that with the release of this album they will be performing it live on a worldwide live-stream on the same day.

The album will be composed of 11 tracks, it has been written and mostly produced by Tyler Joseph at his home studio. Scaled and Icy was mostly produced last year during the lockdown. The two have exchanged their files online while they were hundreds of miles apart -Joseph in Ohio and Dun in California.

TOP revealed in a press released that their forthcoming album is “the product of long-distance virtual sessions and finds the duo processing their upended routines along with the prevailing emotions of 2020 – anxiety, loneliness, boredom, and doubt“.

They continued adding that they adopted “a more imaginative and bold approach to their songwriting” and the result in the album is “a collection of songs that push forward through setbacks and focus on the possibilities worth remembering“.

“Shy Away” is the first single from the upcoming album. The song was written by Tyler Joseph after he had a conversation with his younger brother who asked him about the process of writing and producing a record. The frontman described his song at the beginning “as a tutorial” for his brother but finally became a sort of letter of advice to him.

Joseph also added “The only thing tougher than trying to figure out what your own purpose is, is watching someone whom you love trying to figure out their purpose. So that’s what the song is – trying to just give that person that boost of encouragement and pushing them forward“.

The song is more optimistic than the ones on their previous record dealing with mental health, doubt, and suicide. Here “Shy Away” has a bouncing synth riff accompanied by Josh Dun’s drums.

The music video is made in the colors of the artwork of their album and only the duo appears. Dun is at his drums and Joseph sings in his mic. They are in spaces made of different colors, sometimes with a lot of light and sometimes it’s dark and the light comes from colored neons.
