Outspoken US comedian Margaret Cho is bringing her psyCHO tour to London, with a 6 night residency at the Leicester Square Theatre, starting tonight (December 15) until Sunday December 20. Perhaps not so well known over here, the 47 year old Korean-American stand up is a big hit in the States. Cho can do it all – turning her hand to singing, acting, writing and fashion designing, to name but a few. Her no-holds-barred approach to comedy sees her exploring topics such as race and sexuality.
And Cho will be riding on a high, with news that a drug-themed comedy-drama called Highland, starring and executive produced by her, is being developed by Amazon Prime, as announced yesterday. After Cho’s character cleans up her act with a compulsory stint in rehab, she moves back in with her family, who happen to be drug-runners. Playing it close to the bone, Cho herself has experienced substance abuse first hand in the past, as detailed in her 2002 autobiography I’m The One That I Want.
Cho was nominated for an Emmy award for her guest appearance as Kim Jong II’s son in Tina Fey‘s smash hit comedy 30 Rock, and later turned up on stage in full costume causing controversy. Cho also received a Grammy nomination in 2013 in the Best Comedy Album category for ‘Cho Dependent.’
Tickets for the psyCHO tour can be bought online, via the theatre’s website here, or by calling the box office on 02077342222.
