Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for The Little Things, the upcoming thriller film starring a trio of Oscar winners in the form of Denzel Washington, Rami Malek and Jared Leto.
The above clip is a pretty dark and grim affair, giving off vibes of Se7en and previous Washington thrillers from the same era like The Bone Collector and Fallen. And the film looks to be a sort of throwback to when this genre was a cinematic staple. In recent years this sort of content, for lack of a better word, has migrated to TV and become a mini-series.
So it’s cool to see an original thriller with big stars being touted as a major release by Warner Bros. Unfortunately it will be pretty hard to gauge if The Little Things is the kind of success story that will help bring the thriller genre back to the silver screen, as the film will be one of the first to have a day and date launch on HBO Max.
Still, the trailer looks to have plenty of potential, and maybe strong numbers overseas can convince studios to keep investing in the genre. John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) directs from his own script, with Oscar and Emmy-winning producer Mark Jackson (Breaking Bad) producing. The film hits cinemas (where available) and HBO Max on January 29, 2021.
