Per Deadline, Warner Bros. has purchased comedy film The Masters Of Mini-Golf from Mila Kunis‘ Orchard Farm Productions, and plans to air it on HBO Max.
The film is currently in production, and stars Ashton Kutcher as a golf hustler who, along with his older brother, plan to switch their schemes from the PGA tour to the Masters of Mini Golf (which is real!). However, their scheme hits a few snags as they find out that the challenges and competitors are a lot more complicated than they imagined.
Up and coming writers Ava Tramer and Ari Berkowitz have written the film, having previously penned 2018 Black List script (Please) Maternity Leave, while also currently working on a holiday film for Paramount Players. Kutcher’s wife Kunis will produce alongside Kristina Sorensen.
While Kutcher has had a main role on Netflix sitcom The Ranch for 80 episodes, he somehow hasn’t appeared in a film since 2014. He does have a number of projects in the works though, which include B.J. Novak‘s horror film Vengeance and romantic comedy Your Place Or Mine alongside Reese Witherspoon.
This is an interesting acquisition from Warner Bros., who normally skew towards more serious films with their HBO brand, but perhaps they swooped in on this one to prevent other streaming rivals from snatching it up. Anything to compete with the likes of Netflix.
Despite the film currently being in production, there is no word on who is directing, nor when the film might be expected to arrive on HBO Max.
