In this age of two and a half minute trailers full of action, cliffhangers, witty quips and more, sometimes it’s nice to slow things down a little. That’s exactly what the trailer for Wakefield does, the new film starring Bryan Cranston from director Robin Swicord.
Cranston stars as a New York City lawyer living in the suburbs who one day decides not to go home to his family, instead hiding out in his attic. How long does he keep the charade up, and for what reasons?
It’s an intriguing premise, and the trailer depicts Cranston’s decision not as malicious but as sad and lonely as “Clair de Lune” from the Suite bergamasque solemnly tugs away at our heartstrings in the background. This is a pretty effective trailer.
Throw in the fact that Cranston is always worth watching and director Swicord was once Oscar nominated for her screenplay for The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, and there could be something intriguing here.
The film also stars Jennifer Garner, Beverly D’Angelo and Jason O’Mara. Can the film live up to its engrossing trailer or will it just be a promising tease for a disappointing film?
Wakefield arrives in select cinemas on Friday, May 19.
